The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has named its 15-man squad for the upcoming ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024, to be held in the United States and the West Indies. The squad, announced on Wednesday, May 1st, sees some interesting selections, with the biggest surprise being the omission of wicket-keeper batsman KL Rahul and the inclusion of Sanju Samson.

Experienced Core with Exciting Youngsters

The squad features a balanced blend of experienced campaigners and exciting young talent. Rohit Sharma will lead the side, with Virat Kohli, Suryakumar Yadav, and the in-form Rishabh Pant forming the core of the batting line-up. The inclusion of youngsters Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shivam Dubealongside experienced Hardik Pandya provides depth and flexibility to the middle order.

Sanju Samson Gets the Nod Over KL Rahul

The biggest talking point surrounding the squad is the selection of Sanju as the backup wicketkeeper-batsman. Rahul, who was initially considered a frontrunner for the role, has been surprisingly overlooked. Samson’s consistent performances in the IPL, coupled with his wicket-keeping skills, seem to have convinced the selectors.

Bowling Attack Boasts Pace and Spin

The bowling attack features a potent mix of pace and spin. The express pace of Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj will be complemented by the swing of Arshdeep Singh. The spin department features the wily duo of Yuzvendra Chahal and Kuldeep Yadav, with the experienced all-rounders Axar Patel and Ravindra Jadeja offering some more spin options.
