A heartwarming moment unfolded after the rain-abandoned IPL 2024 match between Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) and Gujarat Titans (GT) at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium on Thursday.
A video shared by the SRH franchise on their social media channels captured a friendly exchange between former SRH captain Kane Williamson and the team’s owner, Kavya Maran.
In the clip, Williamson, who currently plays for GT, was seen walking towards the stands to greet Maran. The two share a warm embrace, a gesture that resonated with fans and cricket enthusiasts alike.
Williamson, a beloved figure in Hyderabad, led SRH for four seasons, captaining them to the IPL final in 2018. Maran, the CEO of the franchise, oversaw Williamson’s successful stint with the team.
The video quickly went viral, garnering significant traction on social media platforms. Fans commented on the wholesome nature of the interaction, highlighting the strong bond that often transcends team loyalties in the IPL.
The rainout led to SRH making it to the playoffs, becoming the third team to do so after Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Rajasthan Royals (RR), while GT finished their IPL 2024 campaign with 12 points from 14 games.
As SRH prepares for the playoffs, the reunion between Maran and Williamson served as a nostalgic reminder of the former skipper’s enduring influence on the team and its fans.
